OSWEGO, NY – Michael A. Coad passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at University Hospital, Syracuse.
He was born in Oswego on July 7, 1948, to Benjamin “Crawf” and Helen (O’Connell) Coad.
He married his best friend and the love of his life, Deborah (Wilkinson) Coad on September 17, 1977.
Together they enjoyed life including many years of sailing, golfing and bowling.
Michael worked in office product sales for 45 years and took great pride in helping his many customers with their office needs.
He most recently worked part-time for NAPA, where he met many new friends.
He was an active member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Oswego Elks Lodge #271.
Michael served as the secretary-treasurer of the Past Exalted Rulers Association and participated in various Elks community activities including soccer, golf, punt pass and kick, the Public Safety Awards and as the Bulletin Editor.
He could also be found as the leprechaun at St. Patrick’s Day events.
Mr. Coad was an Air Force veteran serving from 1968-1972.
He would “work for a cause, not applause,” “Live life to express not to impress,” “Didn’t strive to make his presence noticed, just his absence felt.”
In addition to his parents, Michael was also predeceased by his brothers, Edwin and Richard; and his father-in-law, Earl Wilkinson.
He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his wife, Deborah; mother- in-law, Patricia Wilkinson; and his little miniature schnauzer buddy, Jonah Tigger.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 – 6 p.m. with a service to follow the hours.
Spring burial will be in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Elk’s Major Projects, 132 W. Fifth St., Oswego, N.Y. 13126.

Worked with Mike back in the late 70s, and he never forgot my name or my face. What a guy! Know he will be missed as one of the long-time familiar faces in Oswego. I know it was always nice to see and speak with him for almost 40 years!

Very Sad too hear of mikes passing. quite a shock to me . Very nice man that i had the privilege of knowing . always enjoyed the golf tournament that we played in the summer for about six years with our team of good people .Going to miss the cookies and that special concoction that the whole team enjoyed . May God Bless Him and his family. gone way to soon

Deb, so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. He was a wonderful man. I had the pleasure of him being an instructor with the Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps many years ago and the friendship that built out of that lasted all these years. He will be sorely missed.
So sorry to hear about Mike. He was a friend first and a vendor second. he will be missed.
We were sad to hear of Mike’s passing. We enjoyed our time bowling in the Sunday night league with him. We will miss his passion, compassion and encouragement to “get that spare”. God Bless you Michael.
Saddened to hear of Mike’s unexpected passing. I met Mike in his office product sales position at a local Dr.’s office many years ago. He was such a joy to work with. He shared many stories from the Elk’s, sailing and bowling experiences! He was not only a colleague but also a friend! RIP Mike.
