  1. Benny and I grew up together in Port Arthur, TX, through church and school, all the way to graduation. We were part of a large group of kids, baby boomers, and part of a fairly large youth group at Fourth Avenue Baptist Church. Benny was a good friend, and I remember sharing in many activities with him and our other friends. He knew me as Cheryl Lively, and he also knew my future husband, Joe Sigler. I knew his parents, and he knew mine. My oldest brother, Hugh, also grew up with him. In those days, everybody’s parents looked out for their own children and their friends. It sounds corny, but we really did have a good life in those days.

I just want you to knew that Benny was funny, smart, handsome, and an all-around good guy! I am glad to know that he built a family with you and that he served honorably to protect all of us. Growing up in the 50’s and 60’s in a relatively small town was great. Our church and school friends were amazingly close, considering the huge size of our graduating class.

Please accept our sympathy for your loss. I hope that his memory will bring you comfort and peace.
