OSWEGO, NY – J. Benjamin Hutson, 66 a resident of Mexico, NY, passed away Wednesday morning March 13, 2013, in Oswego Hospital.
Mr. Hutson was born in Port Arthur, Texas.
He was the husband of Mary Lou Baldwin Akers Hutson.
Mr. Hutson had been employed for many years with the Texas Department of Education.
He relocated to Oswego County several years ago so that he and his wife could be closer to family.
Mr. Hutson served in the US Army as a medical technician during the Vietnam War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one stepdaughter, Carol Sue (George Rookey) Akers of Oswego; two stepsons, Paul (Rosa Belone) Akers of Rochester and John (Sheri) Akers of Spencerport; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Services will be private.

I just learned of
Benny and I grew up together in Port Arthur, TX, through church and school, all the way to graduation. We were part of a large group of kids, baby boomers, and part of a fairly large youth group at Fourth Avenue Baptist Church. Benny was a good friend, and I remember sharing in many activities with him and our other friends. He knew me as Cheryl Lively, and he also knew my future husband, Joe Sigler. I knew his parents, and he knew mine. My oldest brother, Hugh, also grew up with him. In those days, everybody’s parents looked out for their own children and their friends. It sounds corny, but we really did have a good life in those days.
I just want you to knew that Benny was funny, smart, handsome, and an all-around good guy! I am glad to know that he built a family with you and that he served honorably to protect all of us. Growing up in the 50’s and 60’s in a relatively small town was great. Our church and school friends were amazingly close, considering the huge size of our graduating class.
