OSWEGO, NY – Jeanne Marie Lalande (nee Pilon) died at her home on Friday evening April 22, 2016.
She was 64 years old.
The daughter of Charlie and Anne Pilon, she was raised in Scriba, NY, in a lively and loving home of foster kids, Fresh Air children and her siblings: Jo Anne Steele (nee Pilon), John Pilon and Janet Fairbanks (nee Pilon).
They were her lifelong best friends and are lucky to have survived their childhood hijinks.
She met the love of her life, John Lalande, when she was just 15 years old.
In 1972, they were married, after which they lived in Germany for several years while John was stationed in the Army.
They enjoyed many adventures, a few Berliner Weisse, and Jeanne discovered her love for Wienershnitzel.
Jeanne and John would have four children together: John, James, Jacqueline (Cappello) and Jessica.
She was warm and generous to their partners Christie Pitzner Lalande, Ian Cappello, and Anthony Tundo.
Her grandchildren (Eleanor Lalande, Caroline Lalande and Quillan Cappello) were loved dearly, showered with gifts, and snuggled often.
Spoiled — and loved — perhaps most of all was her dog, Jasmin.
For 16 years, the Lalandes lived in Champaign, Ill., where she worked as an administrative aide for numerous judges.
At the Champaign County Courthouse and Holy Cross Church, she made lifelong friends and had laugh-inducing experiences she would retell for years to come.
After moving back to New York, Jeanne looked after her children and parents though she herself was suffering from sarcoidosis.
She was a member of several local churches where she celebrated her faith with her husband and children.
She loved watching movies and was known to happily fill her car with her children’s friends and schlep them to the theater.
She frequently felt for those in need and helped them however she could.
This ranged from offering a car ride on a rainy day, giving away extra coupons to strangers at restaurants, and welcoming wayward souls to holidays or family meals.
If you are reading this and you knew her, there is a fair chance you were blessed with one of her spaghetti dinners or Sunday meals.
It means she loved you.
If you’d like to honor her, feel free to bond with someone over a good meal or movie, make a special treat to show you care, let yourself feel for those in need, and provide a helping hand in any way you can.
Sometimes these seemingly small actions, can leave the best memories in their wake.
Her entire family will miss her something awful.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at St. Peter’s Church in Oswego.
There are no calling hours.
