OSWEGO, NY – Virginia A. Dain passed away on Saturday Sept. 25, 2010, at age 92.
Virginia, known to many as “Tiny,†was born on May 1, 1918, to Charles L. Dain and Geneva Galvin Dain.
A lifelong resident of Oswego, NY, she was predeceased by her five brothers and sisters.
She was a graduate of the College of Saint Elizabeth of Morristown, NJ and was honored to be in Who’s Who of American College Women.
She received her Master’s Degree in Audio Visual from Syracuse University in 1949 and started the first AV Program in Oswego High School.
She taught World History for 36 years while being head of the AV Department and retired in 1977.
Ms. Dain was an avid golfer and in 1941, was winner of the President’s Club silver trophy from the Oswego Country Club.
She enjoyed skiing, travel, gardening, and helping others.
She was a devout member of St. Peter’s Church.
Ms. Dain is survived by her three nieces she helped raise, Sally Warner Stanek of Fairport, NY, Joan Warner Plato and Gerald Plato of Ellicott City, Md., and Martha Warner Nelson and Mark Nelson of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.
She also leaves many cherished nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Her family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 E. Second St.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Peter’s Church.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Church, 83 E. Albany St., Oswego.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Ms Dain i’m a 1962 graduate of OHS and Ms Dain was my history teacher and our Vice principal 1958-1962 at OHS and we only had one principle and one vice principal, for the whole school!! she was an excellent teacher and i often think about her and what if i had paid more attention in her history class, and yes i was in her VP office a few times but she was always fair and understanding maybe i did not think so when i was sitting in her office but i do now funny how you look at things different as you grow older i learned at lot from teachers like Ms Dain and somehow at the time i did not realize how much i learned, so may God bless her and take care of her we the class of “62” will miss her at our 50th reunion in August of 2012 . rest in peace Ms Dain

Virginia Dain was my favorite teacher in High School…I graduated in 1946. She was a good friend to us teenagers, as well as a super teacher. Wish I had known she was still around Oswego and I could have emailed her…. I haven’t lived in Oswego for many years, but I remember she would even ask my Mother about me from time to time. My loss in not keeping in touch with a wonderful person.
“Tiny” was always kind to me, when many were not. She liked me and I respected and liked her.
I think on her now, and know she impacted others. What good person. Perhaps that was he destiny. Fly free now. You will be missed. Condolences to her family.
