FULTON, NY – Philip A. Manitta, 89, of Fulton, died Saturday December 13, 2014, in The Grand at Chittenango.
Mr. Manitta was born in Skaneateles, the son of the late Salvatore and Angelina (Vasco) Manitta.
He moved to Fulton in 1937.
Mr. Manitta co-owned and operated Manitta Bros. Grocery Store in Fulton.
He served in the United States Army as a sergeant during World War II, from 1949 until 1954.
Mr. Manitta is survived by his wife of 57 years, Columbia “Chickie” Manitta; daughters, Phyllis (Dave) Hutchinson of Pennsylvania and Annette (Martin) Bargabos of Canastota; siblings, Dominic “Doc” (Gloria) Manitta of Fulton, Lucille Runeare of Fulton, Emily (Joe) St. Phillips of Fulton and Mary (Joe) Jonientz of Liverpool; three granddaughters, Rachel, Celia and Ella; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Josephine Borek and Anna Koczan.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Fulton.
Spring burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.
There will be no calling hours.
The arrangements are in the care of the Sugar Funeral Home, 224 W. Second St., Fulton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association.

Phil was a very kind caring and giving person. He always had a smile for you whenever you went into the store. I used to ask for the window special on the bologna which in and of its self was an antigue with the sane price. he would cut it up and hand it to me and smile and I would say window pricing and he would say ok then and smile. he and Doc were great everytime you would stop in. Doc will surely miss his brother Phil. Rest in peace Phil and hope to ask you for that bologna special when I see you again in heaven.

we lived next door to Manitta’s some time ago and my
kids loved going there and seeing Phil and Doc … they
always liked seeing the kids and would give them each
a banana … my son still has the hat that they gave him
some 10+ years ago … R.I.P. Phil … you will be missed
