Fulton Amateur Radio Club Says: ‘Thank You’

To The Editor:
The officers and members of the Fulton Amateur Radio Club (FARC) would like to thank all who helped to make our annual Field Day event June 24 through 25 at the historic Fort of Ontario a huge success.

Our thanks go out to the Oswego County Emergency Management, and the Oswego County RACES group for the use of their communication trailer and antenna trailer; Paul Lear and his staff for the use of their beautiful facilities again this year; Scout Troop 825 out of Mexico for the use of their cook trailer; and all the many visitors who strolled on by and visited with our radio operators.

Field Day is ham radio’s open house. Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill and service to our communities and our nation.

It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event.

Field Day has been an annual event since 1933 and remains the most popular event in ham radio.

In 2017, the club marks the 60th anniversary of the Fulton Amateur Radio Club.

This celebration is only the first of many honoring our founders.

The radio club has also communicated with the 200+ licensed amateur radio operators in Oswego County to celebrate this important occasion.

In August, we will celebrate with a special event station set up at our annual club picnic.

This event allows our operators the opportunity to show their ability to set up all antennas and radio equipment in quick and efficient time to provide communications in times of emergency.

The Fulton Amateur Radio Club was also able to host numerous visitors and out of those visitors three expressed the desire to test to obtain their technician license.

The testing took place on June 28 and they are now HAMS.

A very successful Field Day Event.
