Government counts on that very statement when a concerning issue happens!
I’m sure everyone remembers the snowstorm of February! I’m sure everyone remembers hearing about many residents’ inability to navigate their way around the city streets!
I’m sure everyone remembers many residents asking why their streets are cleared!
Well, your government is hoping you forgot or will forget!
I haven’t and I won’t let it be swept under the rug!
Yes! The snow will go away!
Yes! The streets will be passable very soon!
Yes! Someday we will be able to park on streets and be able to travel two cars abreast down a street!
Yes! We will be able to see around every intersection soon!
Yes! The ice and snow will melt above the entrance to the Library!
Yes! We will be able to go to the Library again!
Who should be held accountable for all of these issues.
DPW!
NO!
You can’t expect a worker to perform and handle an issue with only a quarter of the supplies needed. The DPW has been gutted over the years. It didn’t come into the spotlight until this snowstorm.
The DPW performed to the best of their ability with the tools they had and the number of team members they had.
The Mayor!
YES!
The Mayor had at his disposal an action plan formulated this past summer in how to handle a natural event!
The plan called for the Mayor to declare a State of Emergency!
The plan called for the Mayor to seek assistance!
The plan called for the City to perform the tasks needed to insure all residents were safe!
Did this happen?
NO!
Most residents were able to see the interview with the Mayor and the Mayor being asked why he failed to ask for help!
His answer was unacceptable!
In the private sector, an issue of that magnitude would have been handled by a superior saying “Get it done or I will get someone that can get it done”.
The answer is for the City to enter into an intermunicipal agreement with surrounding municipalities for assistance in the case of another natural incident such as another snow storm of the magnitude we had this past February !
The “Out of Sight, Out of Mind!” was prevalent at last night’s CC meeting.
Only two individuals spoke about the February snowstorm, one of them was me.
Now during the storm there was a plethora of residents speaking about the lack of snow clearing by the City on Facebook. Some were present at the meeting; however they failed to speak about their issues with the cities lack of snow clearing. Leaving the discussion of their issues to myself and the other speaker. Which is fine however it send a message that the two that spoke are the only two that had a problem with the handling of the snow.
The temperatures are raising, and the snow is going to go away. It will be back and we have to be ready for it.
The City of Fulton’s administration has to get ready now for the next natural incident, not the day it happens.

Wait until you see the condition of the streets that will need to be repaired. What will be the cost of this and how will it be fixed. Hope the mayor has a plan for this and how will a already over taxed city pay for it.
