PHOENIX – Students in the John C. Birdlebough High School in Phoenix recently wrapped up the 2018-19 school year with their Senior Recognition and Scholarship concert. The choral groups performed under the direction of Brian D. Logee.
The Phoenix Firebird Chamber Singers opened the evening with “Run to You” and “Be Thou My Vision” featuring soloist Josh Van Gorder. Declan Hawthorne was the featured soloist with “The Vagabond.”
The Phoenix Firebird Concert Chorus opened with “Remember Me” from the movie Coco. “Senior Selections” followed, which was comprised of favorite songs chosen by the graduating seniors. The concert chorus ended their portion of the evening with a rousing rendition of “Jai Ho” complete with choreography.
This year’s senior song was “Till the Stars Fall From the Sky” and the evening ended with the combined choirs being joined by JCB Chorus Alumni for “The Blessing of Aaron” and the Phoenix Alma Mater.
During the evening, students were recognized for their hard work. The evening’s awards included: Most Improved in Chorus: Keaton Renfrew; Outstanding Citizenship Award: Josh Van Gorder; High School Choral Excellence Award: Olivia Ripley; High School Excellence in Theatre Award: Declan Hawthorne; Chorus Booster and Citizenship Award: Daniel Braun; Chorus Booster Music, Theatre Major/Minor Award: Declan Hawthorne
Excellence Behind the Scenes Award: Isabella Allan; Talent in Theatre: Caytlyn Pricket and Sierra Wilder; June Dillan Memorial Scholarship: Olivia Ripley and Josh Van Gorder. Students participating in NYSSMA Solo Festival, Area All State and All County Chorus were also recognized for their achievements.
The evening included a pinning ceremony where seniors received recognition pins from their peers.
