Oswego River report:
According to Larry Muroski of Larry’s Oswego Salmon Shop:
The water flow has been running between 6,000-8,000cfs for several days but has risen to just over 8,000 as of this morning. This flow is fishable all along the river. Look for brown trout, steelhead, and rainbows using trout beads, egg sacs, hair jigs, pink bubble gum worms and wax worms. Driftboats have been seen working the waters with some nice catches reported.
Salmon River report:
According to Whitaker’s Sport Shop & Motel:
A wintry mix is in the forecast for Wednesday, but once this moves through mild weather is expected for the remainder of the week. Tuesday morning was cold and windy, but in the afternoon we had sunny skies, the wind went down and the temperature reached into the mid 30’s. Overall the fishing pressure was light and the majority of anglers who did fish, were in the upper end of the river in Altmar. Anglers staying in the motel reported getting into fish in the Lower Fly Zone, below the Altmar bridge and the Schoolhouse Pool with nymphs producing the best results.
According to the Douglaston Salmon Run:
Usually, this time of year the snow on the river bank is covered with small black insects. These insects are stone flies and represent an important late winter food source to steelhead. One of our season pass holders reported that yesterday he did very well on a small #12-14 stone fly pattern. He told me he fished through a run with his typical egg patterns and didn’t have a hit. He then switched to a stone fly pattern and was immediately into fish. Of the seven or so fish he hooked all came on the stone fly. That has my attention.
Oneida Lake report:
With no prolonged period of colder temperatures and most days with above freezing temperatures, any ice on the lake is softening up. Anglers are urged to stay off the ice.
Sandy Pond report:

There is no safe ice to report on the pond.
Winter Trail Report:
The weather pattern does not seem to be changing much. We have a couple of colder days with maybe a few snow showers and then we are back up into the 40s. They are currently calling for a high near 50 for Saturday but then dropping some later in the day. The 7-day forecast indicates no daytime temperatures under 32 degrees.
Cross-Country Skiing:
According to Hugh Quinn of the Osceola Tug Hill Ski Club:
We received another inch or two of snow here and there over the last few days. My hope is that we still make our April 15th closing date with snow on the ground. As the days get longer, the sun higher in the sky and the temperature rising, we may or may not ski into April. We currently have a 6-12 inch base on the trails and 14-24 inches through the woods with a packed powder/powder surface.
