Holland, NY – The Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex hosted the annual pre-season practice day on Sunday afternoon, with nearly 50 entries taking the opportunity to test and tune prior to the Memorial Day weekend season opening doubleheader.
Three divisions also took part in qualification events to set the grid for Saturday evening’s qualifying heats. In the 12 lap Late Models of Tomorrow qualifier, Dave Whittaker of Orchard Park, NY led flag-to-flag with 2008 champ T.J. Johnson and 2009 crown-holder Eldon King III chasing Whittaker across the line. The Bank of Holland Chargers ran two 12 lap sessions – Rich Carnes of Buffalo, NY captured the first race, edging Tom Northem for the win, while defending divisional champ Dave Krawczyk of Kenmore, NY outdistanced 2007 titleist Jim Loffredo in the second go. The 4-cylinder stock Hornets and Queen Bees also had a
pair of 12 lap dashes – in the first, Ben Russo of Lancaster, NY out-sprinted Jammer Mueckl for the win, while past Hornet champ Bill
Lutz of Lancaster held off determined past Queen Bees title holder Ashley Kirchberger in the second.
On Saturday, May 29th, Holland will launch its 51st season of operation with the annual McKinley Mall season opener. The NASCAR Ragingwolf.com Pro Modifieds will be featured in round two of the 10 race Holland-Spencer Upstate Sportsman Modified Series, presented by Hoosier Tire and Sunoco Race Fuels. Entries will draw for heat race starting spots, with the qualifying heats determining the main event grid positions. The Late Models of Tomorrow, Bank of Holland Chargers, and the combined 4-cylinder Hornets and Queen Bees will be part of the Saturday card, along with the M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 Cars and the first of 10 visits in 2010 by the Casey’s TQ Midget Series. Pit gates will open at 4:45 PM, grandstand gates at 5:15, and racing will get underway at 7:15 PM. Opening night is also “can of paint†night – fans bringing a gallon of usable paint will receive free admission for the evening.
Holland will swing right back into action on Monday, May 31st, with the annual “Faster Pastor†race – a number of clergy representatives from the area will compete on the high-banked oval in speedway provided 4-cylinder racers in fund-raising efforts for their churches. In addition, the Bank of Holland Chargers will take to the track for a 50 lap, $500 to win special, the INEX Legends will make a special appearance, and the 4-cylinder Hornets and Queen Bees will round out the program. Monday race time is 7:15 PM.
