Coast Guard Honors Man For Saving 3 Lives

Rear Admiral Mike Parks, commander of the Ninth Coast Guard District, reads the citation to Edward Fillingham on Tuesday afternoon.

Edward Fillingham, of Henderson Harbor, was 75 in April 2009 when he launched his canoe despite extremely dangerous conditions and paddled 500 yards to save three boaters from the frigid waters of Lake Ontario. Rear Admiral Mike Parks, commander of the Ninth Coast Guard District, described Fillingham as “a shining example of what we all strive to be, a lifesaver and a servant.”

Four Rescued From Oswego River

UPDATED: – – One of the victims has died.

Four people were rescued after being swept away  by fast-moving high water in the Oswego River earlier this afternoon. Two of the victims were pulled out of the water near the Bridge Street Bridge. The other two were rescued behind the former Coleman’s restaurant.

Coast Guard Rescues Two From Breakwall

Coast Guard Station Oswego rescued a man and a woman from the west breakwall in Oswego Harbor on Saturday. “They were walking along the breakwall when they fell in the water from six-foot waves,” said Machinery Technician 2nd Class Jason Furman, Station Oswego, Officer-of-the-day. “They were able to climb up the rocks and cling to the wall until we arrived.” […]
