New Program Combines Boxing, Education

Grant Lewis and Kahlil Jones prepare to spar. The two students at  the new gym say they are learning to box - but also the importance of  getting a good education.

A new boxing club in the Port City teaches youngsters the basics of the sport – but also stresses the importance of a good education. Focusing on leadership and responsibility, the organizer hopes to curb some of the city’s troubles with youth.

Oswego Council Recognizes Fraternity For Community Service

Sigma Tau Chi was cited Tuesday night by the mayor for their history of community service. The fraternity has conducted several community projects, including mentoring high school students for their SATs. They have a dinner planned for Saturday to raise funds and awareness.

Laker Student-Athletes To Rake Leaves For Senior Citizens On Nov. 9

</p>Members of SUNY Oswego's 24 athletic teams, including the Laker field hockey team shown here, will rake leaves for senior citizens Sunday, Nov. 9, as a Student-Athlete Advisory Council community service project. Those in the Oswego community interested in this service should contact Diane Dillon at 312-2880 or ddillon@oswego.edu. Deadline to register is Oct. 30, or until the count has reached 50 yards.
