Brookfield Renewable Power Urges Anglers To Fish Safely At Varick Hydropower Dam On Oswego River
Brookfield Renewable Power announces that it has implemented enhanced safety tools and warnings for anglers who recreate on or near the company’s Varick Hydropower Dam on the Oswego River. These new tools and warnings supplement the already existing system of warnings, which included signage and a Fishermen’s Alert System, among other features.

Oswego Considers Operating Fish Cleaning Sites
Port City officials are considering running two fish cleaning stations. In the past, vendors have operated the sites. They paid the city a fee and then charged anglers for the service. However, this year no vendors are interested.

Public Invited To 14th Annual Salmon River Hatchery Open House
There will be activities, seminars, and demonstrations throughout the day. Salmon River Corridor outdoor recreational opportunities will be highlighted in each program. Activities, programs and demonstrations will be geared towards hands on activities for youth and families. The open house will be held rain or shine, and admission is free.

International Fisheries Representative Visits Great Lakes
An international fisheries representative recently visited New York’s Great Lakes region to study open water trawling techniques and vessel design. As part of an October educational visit to the U.S., Tomas Juza (at right in photo), a Ph.D. student with the Institute of Hydrobiology at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, visited the Atlantic coast and NY’s Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.
