Don’t Let Governor Erase Fort Ontario
Are we going to allow a pen from Governor Paterson to erase Fort Ontario? A sad affair, after considering the blood that was spilled on the site.

Letter: Help Defend Against The New Attack On Fort Ontario
Writes Chuck Harrington: “The Fort is again under siege – not by an armada assembled by a foreign enemy, but one of our own making. Budget cuts in Albany, spurred by an era of fiscal irresponsibility, have led us to the real possibility of losing a site that holds such a rich history, and many stunning tales of bravery.”
A rally to try to preserve the Fort is scheduled for Sunday.

Public To Rally In Support Of Fort
The chamber is planning for about 1,000 people to show up Sunday to show their support for the Oswego historic site that’s threatened by state budget cuts. The vent starts at noon in the fort’s parking lot.

Barclay’s “Save Fort Ontario” Survey Receives More than 1,000 Responses
So far, more than 1,000 people have responded to the online questionnaire, of which 98 percent said they disagree with the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historical Preservation recommendation to close the Fort.

Closure of Fort Ontario: A Bad Idea
In an effort to close the state budget gap, the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historical Preservation (OPRHP) recommended closing 57 state parks and historic sites late last week. Unfortunately, included among that list was Fort Ontario. Closing the historic site in the heart of the City of Oswego is a terrible idea. Closure will hinder the region’s ability to attract tourists and stifle education.

County To State: Deal With Meaningful Budgetary Reform
Oswego County legislators will send a pair of resolution to a plethora of state officials, including the governor, in support of Fort Ontario and Selkirk Shores. The resolutions also encourage state lawmakers to focus on meaningful budgetary reform and systemic changes that need to take place to solve New York State’s budget problems right away.

U.S. Senator’s Office Studying Fort Closure Issue
U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer said Monday that Oswego’s Fort Ontario should remain open, according to Syracuse’s Channel 3.
UPDATE: But his office disputes a statement on the TV station website that Schumer promised a federal takeover of the historic site if the state closes it.

At Monday night’s Common Council meeting, city officials spoke with one voice: “We won’t give up our fort without a fight!” The councilors encouraged the community in joining them in contacting state officials in an effort to keep the historic site open.
