The National Weather Service warns that Saturday’s combination of heat, humidity and light winds will make temperatures feel like they’re above 100 degrees Saturday afternoon.
The weather service issued a heat advisory for the area, meaning that heat-related illnesses are possible.

We didn’t hit 100 degrees today. But, we did break a record. At 11 a.m. Thursday, the mercurcy reached 93 degrees and tied the record high set in 1994. By noon it was 95 degrees and we had a new record. The last time it was this hot was Aug. 14, 2002 when the mercury hit 97 degrees.
Oswego Mayor Randy Bateman and the members of the Common Council have announced that the fees for public and family swim will be waived at the Gallagher Pool, located at Fort Ontario, for this weekend, commencing today, July 21. It will continue through Sunday, July 24, due to the extreme heat conditions. Also, the sprinklers located in Franklin Square (West Park), Kingsford Park and Oak Hill Park will be on continuously from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during these same dates.
Those most at risk for heat-related illness are young children and the elderly. Oswego Hospital offers some suggestions to protect you from heatstroke, dehydration, and sunburn.
As the temperatures continue to hover around and surpass the 90-degree mark, Oswego County Opportunities is doing its part to help provide relief from the oppressive heat.
Here in Oswego County, people aren’t strangers to the heat and humidity of a Central New York summer. We do everything from cranking up the AC, to heading out on the boat for the breeze and maybe a dip in the lake, to relaxing poolside with a cool drink. After a slight reprieve over the weekend, the heat and humidity will sneak back in this week. Today’s high will be in the mid-80s. It will ‘cool’ off to about 80 Tuesday before temperatures shoot back up to the mid and upper 80s later this week. Don’t be surprised if we hit 90 again.

Monday’s high was the first time it has hit 90 degrees since Aug. 17, 2009. The city swimming pool and Lake Ontario were popular spots for man and beast to cool off. The mercury may stay above 90 for the next few days.
As the temperature hovered around 80 degrees and the humidity continued to rise on Tuesday, this trio found the ideal spot to relax and cool off – floating in the middle of Lake Ontario. Many more will likely head to the lake today as several areas of Central New York are forecasting possible record warmth.
