Oswego County residents will see another decrease in their taxes next year. When first proposed this fall, the 2011 budget contained a tax rate of $7.02 per $1,000 of assessed value, down slightly from this year’s $7.16. The tax rate in the budget adopted Thursday night is $6.99. Some legislators, however, are concerned about using projected revenues to offset costs within the spending plan.
The governor announced Sunday that, because the state has run out of money, he is withholding $750 million in payments to school districts and others. Due to good planning, the Oswego district isn’t faced with any dire consequences at this time, the superintendent said.
