A group of dedicated anglers will return to the Salmon River on May 7 – not to fish, but to pick up trash and debris – for their second annual Salmon River Cleanup. The Lake Ontario Tributary Anglers Council will meet at 10 a.m. at Fox Hollow Lodge, 2740 State Route 13.

Lake Ontario ranks as the most productive salmonid fishery in the Lower 48 States. In fact, the world record coho salmon, a species native to the Pacific Ocean, was caught in the Salmon River near the village of Pulaski.

Recognizing the value of this precious resource, the authorities have set aside a couple short sections for fly-fishing, catch and release only, giving trophy salmonids the chance to survive and thrive after their encounter with man; and drawing anglers from all over the world to indulge in the possibilities.
