A few accusations, and some other things, were thrown around the table at Tuesday’s school board meeting. The board voted 2-4 (board member John Dunsmoor was absent for the vote but arrived at the meeting later on) on a resolution to seek the removal of sitting board member Fran Hoefer. Jim Tschudy and Tom DeCastro cast the lone yes votes. One board member noted that Hoefer wasn’t worth the cost it would take to remove him.
The Charles E. Riley Fall 2010 Pep Rally was highlighted by the appearance of Mr. Buc Head as well as Oswego High School cheerleaders and football players.
The Oswego City School District Board of Education will conduct its next meeting on Oct. 26 at the Education Center Board Room, 120 E. First St.
Residents of Bishop’s Commons and Riley School first graders from Stacy Devendorf’s class shared their third and final cup of tea with each other as the group of seniors and children learned and experienced some lessons taught by Greg Mortenson in his NY Times best seller “Three Cups of Tea.”
It was one of the largest crowds ever for the annual event. The principal says the turnout shows the huge increase in support for the county’s only Catholic school.
The Fulton School Mentoring Program held its end of summer picnic recently at Recreational Park.
The board of education used to meet every two weeks. But under the new system it will meet once each month with preliminary committee meetings conducted to set the agenda and to answer any questions board members may have. The Finance Committee meets at 3 p.m. and the Personnel Committee at 4 p.m. Tuesdays. The Curriculum Committee will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday; a set time for its meetings hasn’t been finalized.
The Kingsford Park Elementary School held it Book Camp celebration.
The Oswego City School District Board of Education has adopted the “Committee System†and therefore the dates for this year’s meetings will be changed. The originally scheduled meeting for today (Oct. 5) will not be conducted.
