OCO Summer Food Service Program Providing Free Meals For Oswego County Children

Dave White, creator of New York’s Sea Grant’s Discover Clean and Safe Boating education campaign, wants to help spread information on how boaters enjoying what they love can also stay safe and help avoid the spread of invasive species.

The CYO Summer Drop-in Recreation Program at Catholic Charities of Oswego County will begin July 5 and continue through Aug. 12. The program is offered free of charge to children ages 7 to 14 in Oswego County and is held Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This summer, Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego, will host nine separate – (one week long) military history activity sessions for children ages 8-18. The sessions will be led by AmeriCorps staffer Ian Mumpton. The programming is aimed at getting young people outside and active during the summer.
The Fulton School Mentoring Program held its end of summer picnic recently at Recreational Park.
This past summer, Riley School launched “Ice Cream for Books”, an exciting new project to help bridge the gap of “summer reading loss.”
When Oswego schools open in September throughout the district there will be many changes in place. Renovation and construction projects have been in the spotlight ever since the school doors closed in late June.
Oswego High School summer graduates celebrated their success at the Oswego City School District Board of Education last week.
Reading during the summer months is invaluable for youngsters. With that as a major concern, Fitzhugh Park Elementary School Principal Donna Simmons sought to initiate a summer literacy program for students in her school.
Summer School Administrator Catherine Celeste said, “There is enthusiasm and kids are showing up every day. It has been fun and interesting for the students. I have to credit their teachers in making it fun and thus the kids want to come back.â€
