For the second year, volunteers from the Phoenix Central School Teacher’s Association will “Plunge for the Pantry” on Saturday, January 9, 2010. The courageous PCSTA members will jump in the frigid waters of the Oswego River at North Island in Phoenix at 1:00 p.m. The “jumpers” have acquired monetary sponsors to back them in order to raise money for the Phoenix Food Pantry.

A collection of food and toys was gathered by members of the Oswego Sunrise Rotary to be given to the Salvation Army during the club’s Christmas party held on Thursday.

On Wednesday, December 9th the Emergency Services Program of Catholic Charities of Oswego County in cooperation with the Food Bank of Central New York will sponsor a fresh food distribution. Fresh foods and produce will be available, free of charge to those in need, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm or until food is gone. Please bring your own bags or boxes. Distribution will be at the Elks Lodge, 57 Pierce Drive in Fulton.

Helen Hoefer can sum up the pace of her business in one word: “Booming”.

That’s not good news. Hoefer runs the food pantry and other emergency services for Catholic Charities of Oswego County. “Our numbers are up about 33% and I think it’s going to get a lot worse,” she said.

Staff at St. Luke Health Services held a canned food drive recently to benefit the Food Bank of Central New York and affiliate, the Human Concerns Center in Oswego.

For a donation of canned goods, St. Luke staff was able to “dress down” and wear their favorite pair of blue jeans to work for the day and support the Food Bank of Central New York’s local affiliate, The Human Concerns Center in Oswego.

After months of remodeling, Catholic Charities of Oswego County is ready to unveil its completely remodeled Food Pantry and Thrift Shop.

In response to recent regulations from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation prohibiting open burning, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County (CCE Oswego County) is exploring the possibility of a collaborative effort with other county agencies to help local farmers address the issue of agricultural plastics disposal.

High School students from the Fulton, Phoenix, and Sandy Creek school districts were recently recognized for their work with the CYO Mentoring Program, a program of Catholic Charities of Oswego County.
