Senator Ritchie Visits Elderly

State Senator Patty Ritchie visited several elderly residents in her hometown of Heuvelton on Thursday, delivering ice cream and cold water to help them beat the heat.  "I've been urging residents of Central and Northern New York to check on their elderly neighbors to see how they are doing during the heat wave," Senator Ritchie said. "It's rare when temperatures rise like this so it's important for everyone to look out for each other."  Heat is the number one, weather-related cause of injury and death, according to the national Weather Service. The NWS is continuing its Extreme Heat Watch for Oswego and Jefferson Counties through Thursday, as temperatures are expected to remain unusually high.State Senator Patty Ritchie visited several elderly residents in her hometown of Heuvelton on Thursday, delivering ice cream and cold water to help them beat the heat.

Summer Sizzles In Central New York This Week

Abby, a six-year-old resident of Fulton, is keeping cool by trying out her new pool.

Temperatures have been in the upper 80s to lower 90s all across CNY. Forecasters say it will be worse Thursday with the possibility of the mercury hitting 100 degrees in the Syracuse area. People are doing whatever they can to find relief from the heat and humidity.

Protect Yourself From The Heat

An excessive heat warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for Thursday (July 21) afternoon - temperatures may be near 100 degrees in some places

Those most at risk for heat-related illness are young children and the elderly. Oswego Hospital offers some suggestions to protect you from heatstroke, dehydration, and sunburn.

Breakfast To Benefit Stuff-A-Bus

Radio controlled airplanes will soar over Fort Ontario during Harborfest Weekend 2011. Kids can try their hand at being an RC airplane pilot with skilled instructors.

During Harborfest Weekend 2011 Fort Ontario State Historic Site will host a Civil War encampment, radio-controlled airplane show, and children’s battle reenactments and marching drills.
