Kites Will Fill the Skies over Fort Ontario Sept. 8
Kites of all colors, shapes and sizes will dance over the grounds of Fort Ontario Sept. 8, at the annual Arts, Crafts and Kites Festival. Hosted by the Friends of Fort Ontario, the festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

‘Simplify, Simplify’ Is Theme of Senior Camping at Camp Hollis, Sept. 10 and 11
Camp Hollis will be keeping it simple on Sept. 10 and 11 at the annual Senior Camping program for people 50 years young and older. Visitors should plan to enjoy nature programs, hikes, arts and crafts, sports, bingo, dancing, a bonfire, guest speakers, sing-a-longs, and great food.

I-STOP Becomes Law to Help Combat Prescription Drug Abuse
This law will create a real-time registry so that any controlled substances prescribed to a patient would be logged; before doctors prescribe any controlled substances, they would need to consult the registry. Pharmacies would also need to consult the registry before dispensing any controlled substances.

From picnics to parades, this summer I had the privilege of meeting a number of our region’s senior citizens at events throughout Central and Northern New York. At these events, one thing stood out. Many of our area’s senior citizens are in their prime, still living very active lifestyles.
