Each year in the U.S., approximately 30,000 young people leave the foster care system without lifelong families. Devoted foster parents are making great efforts to change the life of a child or youth in foster care by providing them with the security and stability that they need.
The Oswego County Health Department holds a rabies clinic for dogs, cats and pet ferrets from 6 to 8 p.m. June 5 at the West Monroe Town Highway Garage on county Route 11. New York State law requires that all dogs, cats and pet ferrets be vaccinated against rabies.
The Oswego Public Library recently added a hundred children’s books in preparation for a great summer of reading! The theme this summer will be Dig Into Reading and many exciting activities and contests will be taking place upstairs at the library, 120 E. Second St.
Councilors say they’d like to implement a bed tax of up to five percent. The revenue that it would generate will offset some of the recently lost funds in other areas. Proponents point out that it is not a tax on residents; rather it will be paid by visitors to the Port City.
During a special meeting of the Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees, the board issued a statement in support of college president Daniel P. Larson and the administration. The board also issued a statement that said it was unable to reach an agreement with the Faculty Association to help address the financial situation facing the college.
George M. Wise, 80, of Richland, died Thursday May 2, 2013, peacefully at his home with his family by his side.

The Human Concerns Center would like to thank both postal employees and community members for their participation in the May 11 “Stamp Out Hunger” letter carrier food drive. The event is the largest one-day food drive in the world. It allows every resident in the county and across the nation to donate food that ultimately stays within the community to help its needy neighbors.
