University Police Earn First Place in Traffic Safety Program

At the Empire State Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Conference held in Rochester on April 18, Administrative Lieutenant Kevin Velzy accepted the first place award for the University Police entry in the New York State Law Enforcement Challenge. This is a friendly competition between police agencies highlighting enforcement and education in the areas of driving while intoxicated, speeding, and occupant restraint.

Oswego State softball players Tori Trovato (Fr., Fulton, N.Y./Millbrook) and Sammie Schroeter (Jr., Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) have been named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Softball teams as voted on by the league’s coaches. Third-year head coach Casey Price was selected as the SUNYAC Sandra Hollander Coach of the Year.

Former Catholic Church Gets New Life – Parish Antiques and Country Market Opens May 18

Owner Cherie Stooks has assembled a large selection of dishes, including Harker Pottery, Depression glass and Mar-crest old-fashioned stoneware at the Parish Antiques and Country Market in the old St. Anne’s Church in Parish. The store will open May 18.Visitors can browse through a large selection of furniture, kitchenware and pottery, prints, and vintage outdoor items, and even the building will see a new use when the Parish Antiques and Country Market opens to the public on May 18. Owner Cherie Stooks has spent the past several months filling the former St. Anne’s Catholic Church with a large selection of antiques ranging from the Victorian period to the 1960s and 1970s.

CNY Arts Center announces its annual Arts Festival planned for June 8. The event brings artists and crafters together with handmade original art on display for show and sale along with food vendors Tavern on the Lock and Treat Me Sweet Desserts, art projects including painting and fabric art, and a grand prize for festival attendees.
