I love small one-topic museums like the Jell-O Museum. The story of Jell-O points out the importance of marketing. A gelatin product was developed by Peter Cooper in 1845 but it wasn’t a success until, in 1897, Pearle Wait added flavor calling it Jell-O. Wait then sold his formula to Frank Woodward for $450.
The annual Oswego Town Ice Cream Social, which is sponsored by the Oswego Town Historical Society, will be held on July 10 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Shortslef Brothers, a Country/Bluegrass Band, will offer the entertainment. Attendees are urged to bring their own lawn chairs to enjoy an excellent evening with neighbors and friends.
The CYO Summer Drop-in Recreation Program at Catholic Charities of Oswego County will begin July 8 and will continue through August 23. The Summer Drop-in Recreation Program is offered free of charge to children in grades 2 through 8 in Oswego County and is held Monday through Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The bazaar features plenty of food, fun and games for the entire family including: a cake booth, plant booth, Kiddie Land, a 50 / 50 drawing, St. Mary’s famous chicken barbecue, live entertainment nightly, and a chance to win $5,000 with St. Mary’s Annual Drawing. In addition, St. Mary’s Bazaar will host live performances from of the area’s most popular entertainers.
After providing care to the community for more than 52 years, Joseph Edmund Mather, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. obstetrician/gynecologist of Oswego County OB-GYN, P.C., has announced he will retire at the end of June. Dr. Mather Sr. has been providing women’s health care in Oswego since 1961 while maintaining privileges at Oswego Hospital until his retirement.
The Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest Committee decided Friday, June 28, to move the paddling event to the Oswego Harbor for the safety of the paddlers. “Due to flood warnings, debris in the river and strong currents from recent storms, we decided to move the event to the Oswego Harbor,” said Jackie Sheffield, associate director of the Oswego YMCA. “We are asking paddlers to meet at Wright’s Landing in Oswego instead of paddling through the locks.”
