Bernard D. “Bum” Carey, 80, of County Route 6, Schroeppel, (Phoenix), NY, died on Friday June 7, 2013, at the Manor at Seneca Hill, Volney.
Loma J. Smithers Brant, 69, of Granby, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday June 7, 2013.
Joyce M. Vickery, 81, a resident of Sunrise Drive, passed away on Saturday morning June 8, 2013, at her home with her family by her side.
The Oswego Rotary Club recently honored five graduating seniors of the Oswego City School District and their parents at lunch with scholarships and an Occupational Education Award. Club President Tom Ingram presented framed certificates to the $1,000 scholarship recipients and a check to the award recipient.
Laura O’Brien from Oswego was named to the President’s List at The State University of New York at Geneseo for the spring semester 2013. To be on the list, a student must have achieved an A in all coursework (4.0 grade point average) while taking at least 12 credit hours.

The river’s end bookstore is offering the next in its series of programs for writers and those interested in becoming writers. Chosen Words: Exploring the Art of Poetry, will feature works by a variety of poets and is structured to help even those not familiar with poetry become comfortable with the genre. The six-week class includes instruction and discussion in a relaxed, small-group setting.
We learn in school that Betsy Ross designed the American flag. But did she really? Legend has it that she made the first flag but there is no documented evidence that says she did which is always dilemma for historians. However, there are several factors that made it likely that Betsy did indeed create the first American flag.
