Margaret (Marcely) Raby, a life long resident of Oswego, passed away at the age of 94, on Sunday August 25, 2013, after a short illness.

US senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today (Aug. 23) announced that Central and Northern New York is set to receive $768,562 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency allocations. First, Schumer and Gillibrand announced that $617,022 in funding for Cayuga, Jefferson Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties through the Operation Stonegarden Program in the FY2013 Homeland Security Grant Program Allocation.
Gerrit Smith was one of the New York States’ strongest supporters of the abolitionist movement. Smith is just one of the many people who helped slaves get their freedom. Actually, Smith purchased some slaves and then freed them. Smith was a close friend of Frederick Douglass, the African American who, after his escape from slavery, became a leader in the abolitionist movement and an advocate of other social reforms.
Rehearsals are well under way for Woody Allen’s play, “Don’t Drink the Water” on the Frances Marion Brown stage. The farce, directed by Sherri Lynn Metz, appeared on Broadway November 7, 1966, and played for 598 performances at three different Broadway theatres. It was Allen’s first professionally produced venture. The original cast included such notables as Lou Jacobi, Kay Medford, Anita Gillette, Tony Roberts and Donna Mills.
Earlier this month, the kids of Taft Bay assisted AmeriCorps worker Cassandra Tighe in her community project. Although the kids could not swim in the lake due to blue-green algae, they wanted to give back to the place they call home for the summer. They planted more than 30 flowers around the Craft Shack and covered the flowers with mulch.
