Roller derby recruitment set Aug. 20 in Oswego

In the midst of its third season, Port City Roller Derby is recruiting skaters, refs and other volunteers looking for fun, fitness and friendships in this growing sport. An open house and recruitment will take place at 8 p.m. Aug. 20, in the league’s new practice space in the Oswego YMCA Armory, corner of West First and Utica streets.

New sports info director takes over at SUNY Oswego

For newly hired sports information director at SUNY Oswego Michael Bielak, a part-time job during college led him into a career in the Oswego area which may turn into a perfect match; both have a strong drive for athletics and even winter weather. Having attended Bishop Grimes prep school in Syracuse, Bielak headed to St. John Fisher for his undergraduate studies. As a student there, a part-time job offer from his advisor eventually led him to SUNY Oswego.
