A 9:58 p.m. Monday, Oswego Fire Department crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 144 W. Seneca St., in the city. Firefighters arrived minutes later and found smoke billowing from the basement and an active fire near the main electrical service of the two-family home.
The Oswego County Health Department will hold a rabies clinic for cats, dogs, and pet ferrets from 6 to 8 p.m. June 4, at the West Monroe Town Highway Garage, 46 County Route 11. The health department suggests a $5 donation per animal to help cover the cost of the rabies clinics, but no one will be turned away.
Following a long winter, motorcyclists across the Central and Northern New York region are eager to hit the road. As summer approaches, it’s extra important for those on both two wheels and four to safely share the road. As the calendar page turns from May, which is also Motorcycle Safety Month, to June, I’m happy to report that a bill I sponsored to help make our roads safer has passed the State Senate.
The Buc Parent League will be hosting a chicken BBQ fundraiser on June 1 from noon until 5 p.m. at Lighthouse Lanes. Chicken dinners, including homemade desserts will be available for a $9 donation. Tickets to the event can be obtained from any Buc parent, or at the door.
The Safe Haven Museum and Education Center is proud to announce that the 70th reunion of the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter will take place from June 19 through 22. On Aug. 5, 1944, 982 refugees who survived Nazi reign during World War II arrived at Fort Ontario in Oswego. They were allowed into the country as “guests” of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
