Girl Scouts of all ages in the Oswego area recently held a Leader/Daughter Girl Scouts Give Back night at their December Service Unit meeting. Nearly 80 activity bags were assembled during the meeting and delivered to the Emergency Department of Oswego Hospital.
Compass Credit Union in Oswego recently donated $500 to the Home and School Association at Fitzhugh Park Elementary School. The funds will be used to help pay for winter clothing needs.
Toys under today’s Christmas tree have more computer power than the Pentagon just a few years ago. Youngsters are asking Santa for robot dogs, video games and computers. Even a simple wristwatch is loaded with hi-tech wizardry these days. A sampling of newspaper ads from years gone by provides a glimpse into a different shopping for the holidays approach.
One local resident met “Santa” three days early for a very special Christmas. Sharon McCoy is the lucky winner of the Diamond Necklace from the Oswego Community Youth Orchestra, donated generously by JP Jewelers.
APW Elementary School recently held a holiday celebration that invited staff and students to wear pajamas, bring in a stuffed animal and read a favorite book. To kick off the celebration, “The Night Before Christmas” was read over the PA system during morning announcements.
Lanigan students danced at the school’s Holiday Sing-a-long. This holiday season, the school raised more than $550 from bottles and cans for the needy.
George M. Pytlak, 72, a resident of Oswego, passed away Sunday December 21, 2014, at Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.
Mary Jane Miller, 73, of Palermo, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday December 23, 2014, at home surrounded by her family.
Dawn E. Hart, 78, of Oswego, passed away Tuesday December 23, 2014, at Seneca Hill Manor.
On December 20, the Fulton Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint along with members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Park Police, New York State Police and SUNY Oswego Campus Police. Immediately following the checkpoint officers conducted active roving DWI patrols. Numerous defendants were arrested and/or were issued traffic tickets during the checkpoint and patrols.
