As the winter days click off and race teams are busy in their race shops so is the management of the tracks putting the final touches on an exciting race season that will be here before we know it.

On January 31 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the American Foundry, 246 W. Seneca St., the Oswego County Humane Society will present The Faux Fur Ball. The event will feature a wine social hour with a cash bar, a three entrée buffet dinner, a silent auction with a lot of “necessities” to buy, and a scratch off lottery raffle.
CNY Arts Center is excited to announce Disney’s Olaf from the popular movie Frozen will be on hand January 31 for the fourth annual Snow Day. Kids and parents are encouraged to come meet Olaf, have pictures taken and join the family fun. The event is being held from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at CNY Arts Center. The center is located at 11 River Glen Plaza.
Oswego High School Art Students captured more than 40 awards recently at the annual Central New York Scholastic Art Competition. Several students were recognized for their artwork at an awards ceremony held on the Onondaga Community College campus in Syracuse.
Birthday wishes for Dick Losurdo
It is anticipated that the 2015-16 Oswego City School District calendar will be approved during a near future session of the board of education. At the early January meeting, Superintendent of Schools Ben Halsey provided the board members with a draft of a proposed schedule for the next school year. Halsey said, “The superintendents want consistency across the county.” Lengthy discussion has been conducted among Oswego County superintendents and there could still be some adjustments to the proposed calendar.
Walter D. Scruton, 75, of Oswego, formerly of Hannibal, passed away Tuesday January 20, 2015, at the Syracuse V.A. Medical Center.
The Sunoco ethanol manufacturing facility in Fulton has received a $200,000 grant as part of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s $709.2 Million New York State Economic Development Resource Initiative. The grant will help support construction costs of an estimated $1 million weigh station consisting of two scales and a scale house at Owens Road and Route 57.
