A U.S. Army Major recently visited Lura M. Sharp Elementary School to thank students for sending over letters of encouragement while he served a tour of duty in Afghanistan. “Thank you for writing to me while I was in Afghanistan,” Major Del Boyer told students. “I look around at your names and recognize each and every one.”
With someone being in need of blood every two seconds in the United States, giving blood is one of the easiest things you can do to help save lives. This month marks National Blood Donor Month for the American Red Cross, a time when the organization recognizes the contributions made by those who donate blood and encourages others to follow in their footsteps.
I just got back from the vet’s office where I took my dog Betsy and my cat Boomer for their annual check up and boy am I mad! She got all grouchy with me and told me they are FAT. Well she used the word obese, like that would be more polite somehow. I just go by the recommendation on their dog and cat food packages and they only get a few treats per day. She wants me to cut that down by a quarter and cut out all treats. They’ll starve. What do you think?

CNY Arts Center is gearing up for its fourth Annual Snow Day on January 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The family fun event will be held at the center’s new location on the CCC Campus at 11 River Glen Plaza.
Initial investigation indicates that a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am was being operated eastbound on State Route 104B by Dennis L LaPage, 51, of Lee Road, Mexico. Lapage’s vehicle reportedly crossed into the oncoming westbound lane striking a 2000 International flat bed tow truck operated by Craig Parker of Pulaski.
On January 9, the Oswego City Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team, with the assistance of the Oswego County Drug Task Force and New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant at 116 E. Eleventh St. Apartment #2, Oswego. The search warrant was issued as a result of an investigation into the alleged production of methamphetamine at that location, police said.
In a recent column published by Area Auto Racing News, written by correspondent Jay Andrews, Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame driver Joe Gosek indicated that his options are open for a run at Oswego’s Novelis Supermodified championship in 2015. A three-time champion of the Budweiser International Classic at Oswego and a two-time Speedway track champion, Gosek has driven the same Xtreme chassis Supermodified at the Steel Palace since 2007, driving the machine to a Speedway title in 2011 and nine feature wins.
