VanBuren, Walker Tabbed To Lead Council In 2015

Eric VanBuren (Sixth Ward) and Shawn Walker (Fourth Ward) were appointed president and vice president, respectively of the Oswego Common Council. The rules of the council state that an additional compensation of $5,000 per year for the council president and $2,500 for the vice president be paid to those two councilors. As council president, VanBuren will assume the mayor’s duties in his absence; and, if he becomes incapacitated for any reason, he would take over as the acting mayor.

Travel Advisory Issued For City of Fulton

The City of Fulton has issued a travel advisory effective at 2 p.m.today (January 5).

Snow and gusting winds along with a forecast of significant snowfall this evening have created very hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are advised against any unnecessary travel. Vehicles will be towed if they become stuck or if they present a hazard.

Sitting here with snow and ice falling from the sky, the Oswego Public Library invites you to send or drop off your favorite summer photo of Oswego. We will post these pics, along with your first name and last initial, in the main reading room near the Young Adult collection. A great time to drop them off would be during the Friends of the Library’s mini golf event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on January 19.

Katko Tapped for Leadership Position in 114th Congress

U.S. Rep Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, today (Jan. 5) appointed U.S. Congressman John Katko (NY-24) to serve as chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation Security in the 114th Congress. Katko was selected for the leadership position based on issues of regional importance to NY-24 and his background as a federal prosecutor. In addition to the House Committee on Homeland Security, Katko will also serve on the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure.
