Mildred S. Rossi, 82, of Oswego, passed away Sunday morning February 22, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family.
Mildred E. Van Buren, 102, a resident of Oswego, passed away on Monday February 16, 2015, at the Morningstar Residental Care Center.
The Fulton Police Department wants to remind people NOT to deposit snow/ice in the streets. With the poor weather and daily snow accumulations over the past month, many residents are running out of places to put the snow. There have been reports of snow being plowed, blown and shoveled into the street. Placing snow/ice in the roadway creates a hazardous condition for vehicular traffic, which are forced to drive into or around the obstacle.
Heather Cannella and Patty Lazarz’s classes engaged in the learning of Westward Expansion with the creation of a class quilt at Michael A Maroun Elementary. The students heard a story each day relating to the topic of Westward Expansion during their listening block. Traditionally, students would have written a summary of the lesson, but Cannella and Lazarz had other ideas.
The second biggest budget item in the state budget is education, which is right behind healthcare. Last year, the state spent $22.3 billion on education. In 2012, combined with the local and federal share of education, New Yorkers spent $58.4 billion on public education. This is a 56% increase over what was spent on a combined basis in 2002. This year, the Governor proposes to spend $23.14 billion on education. This represents a $1.1 billion increase over last year.
Daniel J. Smith, 64, of Oswego, died Tuesday February 17, 2015, at Upstate Medical University Hospital, Syracuse, as a result of injuries that he suffered in an automobile accident.

Six graphic design candidates for graduate degrees at SUNY Oswego will display their best work in the Master of Arts Spring Exhibition from March 10 to 27 in Tyler Art Gallery at Penfield Library. A free public reception for the artists will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. March 27 at the gallery.
