The Oswego County Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee presented Mary Ellen Barbeau with a certificate of appreciation for her 15 years of service.
Rich Burritt of Burritt Motors in Oswego recently presented the United Way with a check for $500 to help purchase additional school supplies for the agency’s annual Stuff-A-Bus Campaign.
Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match program has been supporting local programs for the past 28 years. Discovery Learning Center received a check for $250, which enabled the center to provide bus transportation for a field trip to the planetarium located on the SUNY Oswego campus.
Mark your calendars – Wednesday (August 26) calls for a meal at Mimi’s, 201 North Second St., Fulton. For everyone that presents a coupon to their waitress on Wednesday, Mimi’s will donate ten percent of the total bill to Friends of History.
The Great New York State Fair will once again kick off on Aug. 27 and run until Sept. 7. The State Fair’s history in Syracuse is long and proud. The annual 12-day event has steadily expanded since its early days. In 1841, the nation’s first state fair was held in Syracuse and there was said to have been some 10,000 people who heard speeches, viewed animal exhibits, attended a plowing contest, and sampled goods for the farm and the home. Despite modern times, the mission of the fair hasn’t changed much.

The supplies, collected during the United Way’s Annual Stuff-A-Bus Campaign, were recently distributed to children in need throughout Oswego County so that they may have the supplies they need to begin the new school year.
