At 8:32 a.m., Mark Walton, 33, was operating a 2015 Ford north on I81 in the town of Richland, 50 feet north of mile marker 116.6, emergency status, toward a MVA when he reportedly lost control causing the vehicle to collide with a guardrail.
The community is invited to an open skate with the Oswego State men’s and women’s hockey teams for Holiday Skate with the Lakers, 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 10, in Marano Campus Center arena to benefit the local United Way. The annual event will feature holiday music, a visit by Santa Claus, a hockey jersey raffle and concessions provided by Auxiliary Services. Laker hockey players will skate with participants and provide autographs.
The State University of New York Police Chiefs Association recently honored three officers of University Police at SUNY Oswego for taking actions that saved lives. In a ceremony at its fall conference Nov. 14 in Saratoga Springs, the association presented Life Saving Awards to officers Thomas Marrone, Kelly Thompson and Thomas Woodruff.
The First United Methodist Church of Fulton will hold its annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair on Saturday, November 25, in its Fellowship Hall. The event will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will feature artists, craftspeople and local vendors from the Central New York area.
Researchers, including the University of Utah’s Jim Steenburgh and University of Wyoming’s Bart Geerts, have now found that these intense snowstorms are fueled by a well-organized air circulation driven by the heat released by the lake, and that the shape of Lake Ontario affects the formation and location of this circulation, and thus the heaviest lake-effect snow.

Globally accomplished jazz drummer Matt Wilson will bring his Matt Wilson Quartet to SUNY Oswego for a Ke-Nekt Chamber Music Series concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29, in Sheldon Hall ballroom. Chris Lightcap on bass, Jeff Lederer on saxophone/clarinet and Kirk Knuffke on cornet will join Wilson. SUNY Oswego music faculty member Eric Schmitz, host for the event, will give a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m.
There are a number of roads in rural areas in our state that do not see a lot of traffic. Despite the low volume of use, towns are required to maintain roads to state specifications even if the road does not lead to a house, camp, or business. This translates into large and often unnecessary expenses for taxpayers.
