The village of Lacona’s Memorial Wreath Lighting will be held on Sunday, November 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the village offices at 11 Park Ave., Lacona. All money collected this year will be split between the Lacona and Sandy Creek fire departments.
All Oswego County offices and solid waste transfer stations will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 23 and 24, for Thanksgiving. Transfer stations will be open Saturday, Nov. 25, from 8 a.m. to noon with weigh scales closing at 11:30 a.m.
On Sunday, November 19, a pancake breakfast will be held at Lake City Lodge 127, at 765 E. Seneca St. Serving will be from 8 a.m. until noon.
Fred was rescued from under a trailer out in the country after his elderly owner had to go to a nursing home. You would think he had been a pampered house cat his whole life (well except for his bunged up ear, probably from being attacked by an animal or maybe frostbite.) He is a sturdy handsome Tuxedo who loves people, complete strangers even.

On November 16, World Pancreatic Cancer Day, people around the world will unite to Demand Better in the fight against the world’s toughest cancer. According to the American Cancer Society in the United States approximately 53,670 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer; only 9% of those will survive more than 5 years.
On Nov. 17, the OnCenter will once again host a National Adoption Day celebration. The day is part of a collective effort to help raise awareness of the more than 110,000 children in foster care across the nation waiting to find permanent homes. It is also a celebration of families who have already opened their homes and hearts to adopted children and in most cases have helped to improve the trajectory of a child’s life forever.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Health Committee recently congratulated Dr. Joseph E. Mather on his retirement and recognized his dedication to the health and well-being of the Oswego County community.
