Schumer, Gillibrand Deliver Largest Investment Ever Through The Northern Border Regional Commission For Upstate NY

After delivering historic increase for the program in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $10,858,128 in federal funding for twelve projects across the North Country and Upstate New York through the Northern Border Regional Commission’s (NBRC) the largest annual investment for Upstate NY in the programs history. Schumer and Gillibrand said these projects will help address critical needs across the region, including expanding childcare, fixing aging infrastructure, training workers for good-paying jobs, increasing access to high-speed internet, and accelerating the economic growth of Main Streets across the North Country and Upstate New York.

State Labor Department Releases Preliminary July 2023 Area Unemployment Rates

The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for July 2023. Rates are calculated using methods prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State’s area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month. To recap last week’s statewide press release, New York State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 3.9% in July 2023.

The International Lake Ontario–St. Lawrence River Board and International Niagara Board of Control will host two virtual public meetings, one in English and one in French, to share the most up to date forecast for the Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River basin and discuss ice boom installation for the upcoming winter. These meetings are essential to provide information on water levels and flows, operational decisions by the Board, and hear from members of the public to better understand the impacts current water levels have on their community.
