My dog Sam and I love to go for rides in our very cool Mustang convertible, but the other day a friend of mine got all huffy and tried to convince me that it wasn’t safe to do that. I think she is jealous of my car and my dog and she should mind her own business. What do you think?

‘I Need to See Her One More Time’: Woman’s Essay Yearns for Lost Mom, Highlights the Work of Literacy Volunteers

Shirley Slate reads from her essay as daughter Caroline Aguzar looks on.“If I could bring my Mom back from Heaven,” Shirley Slate began, reading from her very first essay, a prayer for the return from Heaven for her mother for one more day.

“I just want to hold her one more time,” she said.

That Shirley Slate could read or write that essay was remarkable.  At age 52, she’s learning to read and write and aiming to get her GED.
