Senator Ritchie’s Senior Health and Wellness Fair Draws Big Crowd

State Senator Patty Ritchie hosted a senior health and wellness fair at the Fulton Ice Arena that brought in more than 500 seniors from all over Oswego County. Seniors had the opportunity to speak with dozens of exhibitors, get a free flu shot, and enjoy a free lunch prepared by local CiTi culinary students and free live entertainment.

Fulton Youth Basketball Announces Registration Dates

It’s that time of the year again, the Fulton Youth Basketball Program has announced the dates to register youth for the 2016-2017 basketball season. Registration will be held on four separate occasions, starting Monday, October 3 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and continuing Thursday, October 6 from 7-8:30 p.m., Saturday, October 8 from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and Thursday, October 11 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Friends of Fulton Parks, OCO Reveal Lake Neatahwanta Trail

The Friends of Fulton Parks partnered with Oswego County Opportunities Impact Program hosted a grand reveal of the newly refurbished Lake Neatahwanta nature trail on Saturday, Sept 17. Fulton Junior High Principal Resignation Approved

The Fulton City School District Board of Education unanimously accepted the resignation of four district employees including the principal of Fulton Junior High School, Ryan Lanigan. Lanigan’s resignation will become effective October 7, 2016 and school officials are in the beginning stages of the process to finding a replacement.

Oswego Boxing Club Competes at NYS Fair

The Oswego Boxing Club at the YMCA brought two fighters, Andre Mendez and John Shatraw to the Great New York State Fair to compete in the Tournament of Champions on Sept. 3. The tournament, hosted by Ray Rinaldi, a Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame inductee whose foundation created the North and West Area Athletic and Education Centers in Syracuse, brought eight boxing clubs from CNY, Pennsylvania and even Canada to the Sports Activity Center at the NYS Fair to battle it out in the ring.

Sheriff’s Office Reports Separate Marijuana Growing Busts

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has reported two unrelated marijuana growing arrests in the town of Schroeppel. Both Paul D. Calderwood, 53, of 250 Barnard Rd. in Phoenix and Robert T. Holden, 55, of 271 Barnard Rd. in Phoenix were arrested on Tuesday, August 30 for “unlawfully growing marijuana,” on properties in the town of Schroeppel after a Border Patrol helicopter sighted the marijuana from the air, according to Oswego County Undersheriff, Eugene Sullivan.

Oswego Industries Dedicates Building to Betty Vaught Baasch

Oswego Industries is a private nonprofit that has served the developmentally and intellectually disabled population of Oswego County since its official beginning in 1968. Partnered with sister agency, ARC of Oswego County, together the two have established “a story of struggle, constant change, growth and courage in response to needs,” according to a historical overview of the agencies written by the late Elizabeth “Betty” Vaught Baasch, the founding executive director.
