Great Pumpkins Abound In Port City
This year’s winner was 1,219.5. In 2007 there was a record-setting 1,405.5 pounder. Still, this year saw 38 pumpkins entered, with five topping the 1,000-pound plateau.

Spider-Man was in town Thursday evening at the annual Oswego Farmers’ Market to take part in the children’s Halloween parade. Children in costume, 12 and under, received a free goodie bag of Halloween treats. The market’s official wizard paraded the costumed youngsters around the market and back to the grandstand to receive their goodies.
The Oswego County Health Department held its first seasonal flu clinic Sept. 21. The second was held Wednesday. Additional clinics will be scheduled for Swine Flu (H1N1) vaccination when the vaccine becomes available.
The first part of September 2009 was relatively mild like it should be; while the last several days were rainy and cold like an early spring month, noted Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. The vast majority of the month’s rainfall fell in the last part of the month.
