The iconic eatery, celebrating its 72nd season, opened on Wednesday in spite of the winter-like conditions. It’s being open by the third generation of the same family.
The United Way of Greater Oswego County held its Salute to Volunteers and Leadership Giving Luncheon Wednesday at The American Foundry. The Outstanding Special Event award was presented to Dufores Jewelry. Burritt Motors was the recipient of the Spirit of Community award.
At Monday night’s Common Council meeting, the Purchasing Agent was authorized to seek bids for the 2018 Paving Project. The $827,350 plan includes some of the Port City’s major streets and high traffic areas. The city will purchase a machine designed to move quickly throughout city streets, with minimal personnel required, to patch potholes and address worn areas, the mayor said.
The Common Council approved Local Law #1 of 2018 on Monday night. The law aggressively increases the enforcement, fines and penalties for property maintenance issues such as tall grass, un-shoveled sidewalks, exposed garbage and the tidiness of property visible from city streets. If you snowblow in front of your house, why not go a few more feet and clear in front of your neighbor’s? the council president asked rhetorically. “If you get people on board to try to make the city better … this could be the start of something pretty nice,” he said.

It was a great day for a parade in the Port City on Saturday The sun was was out and the sky was blue. The windchill made it feel like it was in the 20s but no one seemed to mind.
