Participants of SUNY Oswego’s Mentor-Scholars Program have guided several Fulton Junior High School students to a more comfortable place in their lives. Once a week, the 10 mentors from various college majors worked with 13 seventh grade and eighth grade students to boost their emotional and social skills.
For the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation’s Migrant Education Tutorial and Support Services Program, there is nothing better than being with family around the holidays.
More than 200 Fulton Junior High School students were recognized by building administration for achieving Very Important People status in the first marking period.
Second graders in the Phoenix Central School District took their studies around the globe as part of a holiday-inspired lesson prior to Christmas break. Students used their imaginations to travel to Sweden, Germany, England and Mexico.
Fulton City School District students in grades four through six are moving toward a healthier lifestyle. Chris Ells, FCSD director of health, physical education and athletics, said that is because all students at those grade levels now receive 40 minutes of physical education three times each week, as 120 weekly minutes of PE is required by the New York State Education Department.
To better understand the new approach, Fulton City School District teachers recently collaborated with colleagues from the Oswego City School District to receive a Smithsonian Science for the Classroom units’ two-day training, facilitated at the Fulton Education Center by OCM BOCES Project-based Learning Teacher Trainer and Instructional Coach Holly Baldwin.
The Fulton City School District has embarked on a Digital Learning Initiative to provide digital equality as a way to empower all students with 21st Century tools.
Students from the Paul V. Moore High School’s DECA chapter attended the Region 9 DECA competition on December 19 at LeMoyne College. They competed against more than 450 students from around the CNY region.
Each grade level teacher nominated one student from his or her classroom because the honoree had proven to be a role model student both inside and outside of the classroom.
Assistant Principal Patrick Vrooman said the quarterly honor is awarded to students in grades five through eight who meet the following criteria: take the initiative to do the right thing without having to be told, practice good work habits, consistency follow classroom and school rules, serve as a positive role model to others inside and outside of school and contribute to the well-being of the larger community through service.
