While March is officially designated as Music in Our Schools Month, musical talent is on display throughout the entire year in the Phoenix Central School District. From fall choral performances to summer color guard practices, each season is filled with concerts and competitions that have propelled the Phoenix music program to elite status.
Trinity Catholic School hosts The Not Too Far from home Comedy Tour March 13 at the Lake Ontario Conference Center, 26 E. First St. Following rave reviews from previous years, this will be the third annual Adult Comedy Night for Trinity Catholic School. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with live music by Mike Shiel. Hors d’oeuvres will be served and cash bar will be available before and after the show.
The second annual Fairley Healthy Family Night has been set for March 23 from 7-9 p.m. at the Fairley Elementary School gymnasium where good nutrition practices, exercise habits and positive lifestyle choices will be in the spotlight. The entire school community is invited to attend.
The town of Volney History Center is pleased to offer “Tour of Historic Homes, Structures and Sites of Interest in the Township. “ On April 25. A trolley, provided by the Great Lakes Trolley Company, will leave the town hall on County Route 6, Volney Center at 9 a.m.
Volney Elementary students received Monthly Classroom Role Model and Monthly “On-a-Roll” Model awards for displaying the character trait of honesty for the month of February.
Lanigan fourth graders devised some creative assignments for a recent science fair. Projects ranged from your traditional solar system to an experiment testing which brand of nail polish lasts the longest. Meghan Galvin got her inspiration while eating potato chips.
Lanigan first and fourth graders and their families attended a Learning Café for tips and resources on understanding the purpose of homework recently. The event was hosted by math instructional coach Lynnette DePoint, ELA instructional coach Gina Salerno and Principal Jeff Hendrickson.
Although small in stature, students at Lura M. Sharp Elementary School are putting on a larger-than-life performance as “Annie Kids” takes the stage later this month. The show, under the direction of music teacher Stacey Landas, is a spin on the classic story of little orphan Annie.
The seventh annual School House 5K Run/Walk has been set for March 8 with registration beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 12:15 p.m. The kid’s fun run will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the 5K Race/Walk will start at 1 p.m. The race is held as a fundraiser for the Pulaski Marching Band.
