November’s STLE 3 meeting (Strengthening Teacher and Leader Effectiveness) shared insight into the Fulton City School District’s Standards-Based Progress Reports. The new style of progress report benefits students by allowing them to be more aware of what is expected from them.
“As educators, we are in the business of saving lives,” said Dr. Luis Cruz, the keynote speaker for Fulton City School District’s Staff Development Day. “I have some news!” declared Cruz. “Poor children can learn! English learners are intelligent! All kids are capable – black kids, white kids, Native American kids, Latino kids!”
Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Junior High School Band performed a spectacular Winter Holiday Concert. The auditorium was filled with joyful holiday melodies as teacher Janet Fiacco conducted the band.
James E. Lanigan Elementary School in the Fulton City School District has once again received a $500 grant from the ExxonMobil Corporation’s Educational Alliance program. The grant money will be used to promote math and science programs at Lanigan.
According to the St. Lawrence Seaway, total cargo shipments reached 34.6 million metric tons for the period from March 25 to November 30 — up 5 percent over the same period last year. Seaway management expect the season will close ahead of last year by a similar margin.
Laura Smith of the Oswego County Visually Impaired maked a holiday donation to Barbara Downs, a volunteer at Human Concerns, Oswego’s emergency food pantry.
Pulaski elementary students participated in their yearly Christmas tree decorating event at South Park.
For the 12th year, Exelon employees, through their “Giving Tree” Program, collect and donate hundreds of Christmas gifts for the residents of St. Luke Health Services in Oswego. Employees selected a resident Christmas present wish from trees located at their facilities and then take the time and energy to set about fulfilling those wishes.
JP Jewelers and the Oswego Community Youth Orchestra will make someone’s Christmas a lot brighter this year. On December 21 a drawing will be held for a three-stone diamond necklace in white gold.
The necklace contains 1/4CT TW diamonds and retails for $349.
Fairgrieve Elementary parents enjoyed lunch with their students recently at “Lunch and Learning,” where school home liaison Ariana Suhr and ELA instructional coach Gina Salerno gave tips and resources on how to help students become better readers and writers.
