Tourism in Oswego County is on the move based on data from the 2012 report prepared by Tourism Economics, which shows that there has been a significant increase in traveler spending. The report is focused on the Thousand Islands Seaway Region which covers Jefferson, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties. Oswego County increased traveler spending last year by 13.2 percent.
When open this fall, St. Francis Commons will be the only senior care residence in Oswego County offering New York State licensed Assisted Living Program services and amenities. St. Francis Commons will provide supportive housing and care at a level that is less than a nursing home but more than may be found in an independent setting.
One week after seemingly nothing could go right at Oswego Speedway, nearly everything did, with the running of Toys for Tots ‘Christmas in July’ presented by Days Inn/Knights Inn of Oswego on Saturday night.
Rev. Richard Sivers, former pastor of the Minetto United Methodist Church, will give a presentation on July 14 at 2 p.m., at the Minetto church, on his recent solo trip to Eastern Europe. The public is cordially invited to the free presentation.
The third concert in the Oswego Summer Sunset Concert Series will be held July 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Breitbeck Park in Oswego. These concerts are provided free to the public by The City of Oswego and The Musicians Union of Oswego County.
The Harborfest Children’s Committee is looking for youth performers to participate in Oswego’s Got Talent. Oswego’s Got Talent features a visual and literary art exhibition as well as a series of musical youth performances on July 28 at 2:15 p.m. in the Children’s Tent at Novelis Family Park.
Nedrowfest is a family friendly festival for Nedrow and neighboring communities in the parking lot of Eagle Life Center, sponsored by Eagle Life Wesleyan Church and St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. Live music performed by Mike Bolio of Fulton and his band, The Sent Forth.
On July 2, State Police in Pulaski arrested Raye A. Chamberlain, a 40-year-old female from Oswego, for two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class “A” misdemeanor. Chamberlain was charged after an investigation into the inadequate care of a 16-year-old girl.
The suspect vehicle was unable to properly negotiate the intersection at Bunner Street at Maple Street and reportedly collided with a marked Oswego City Police Department patrol vehicle. The officer suffered minor injuries, however, was able to exit his damaged patrol vehicle and place the operator into custody.
