The Kids and Trucks event, sponsored by the Friends of Camp Hollis, is a family event which features all sorts of construction vehicles, fire trucks, tow trucks and other big rigs for children to climb on and see up close and personal.
State Senator Patty Ritchie visited Phoenix Public Library this week to announce a special $3,000 grant she secured for the library. Phoenix Public Library was one of 25 libraries and two library networks in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties to share $85,000 in special funding.

A new barrier/trap on Orwell Creek, a tributary of the Salmon River, the greatest coldwater stream in the Lower 48 States, promises to bring this parasite a giant step closer to eradication.
Masonic Leaders from all over New York State assembled July 7 in Oswego for a full day of activities including a church service, the parade, a picnic at the Oswego Lodge, then the concerts at Breitbeck Park and the Oswego fireworks. Lake City Masonic Lodge No. 127, F & AM was honored to receive the “Best Float in the Parade,” the Nick Sterio Memorial Award.
This year’s Harborfest Children’s Gala is set to take place on July 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Breitbeck Park Food Tent. Consistent with the Harborfest theme, “Celebrate Oswego,” the Children’s Gala aims to evoke the feelings of Oswego in its hey-day with an Old-Timey Themed Carnival.

At about 9 p.m., the Onondaga County 911 Center was advised that the New York State Police were in pursuit of a vehicle on Route 81 North near Preble and heading towards Onondaga County. The driver, and lone occupantof the vehicle, was taken into custody without incident by the New York State Police in Adams.
The annual Nick Bergman Memorial Bass Tournament will be held on July 20 at Hooper’s Harbor Marina in Three Mile Bay. Nick was a sophomore at J.C. Birdlebough in Phoenix where he played football and basketball, however, his real passion was for fishing. There has been a tournament in Nick’s memory since 1999 when he died of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at age 15.
Residents of St. Luke Health Services in Oswego made the trip to this year’s Oswego County Fair in Sandy Creek. They returned with a number of “blue ribbons” and other awards for entries they submitted in “juried” categories ranging from baked goods, to handmade quilts, floral arrangements and other decorative items.
