Scholarship, teaching and passion led to two recent awards for SUNY Oswego School of Education faculty member Maria Murray — dedicated to evidence-based practices in the teaching of reading — and to explosive growth for an organization she founded.
We don’t like it very much, but we all know that even for the very best and most caring pet owners, sometimes stuff happens. It could be illness, the unexpected loss of a job, even a natural disaster like a hurricane or a huge blizzard that destroys a home. Then, in spite of our best efforts, we have to find a new home for a beloved pet. At that point we discover that our options are limited.
State Senator Patty Ritchie is once again teaming up with Oswego Health to host a special event highlighting the importance of protecting women’s health and specifically, the prevention and treatment of breast and ovarian cancers. In past years, events hosted by Senator Ritchie and Oswego Health have focused solely on breast cancer. This year’s event has been expanded to include that vital information on ovarian cancer.
The SUNY Oswego theatre department’s October production of “Clybourne Park,” a Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning play satirizing ingrained notions about race relations and gentrification, should cause audience members to recognize their shared humanity, the play’s director said.
Oswego County Opportunities recently recognized several employees in its Education Services with longevity awards for their loyal service to OCO and its consumers.

On Monday, October 2, Steven Bunch, was presented the Zerubbabel Award by David H. Raymond. Bunch was cited for his pledge of $1,000 to Royal Arch Charities
Perhaps the most notable improvement at the elementary school is the construction of a student drop-off circle at the north end of the parking lot which allows students to enter the building without having to cross the school bus loop.
Students in the Oswego City School District are continuing to find success and enhance their educational opportunities with expanded access to advanced courses as a result of a partnership with Cayuga Community College. Nearly 100 students are set to earn a combined 330 credit hours this semester through the Cayuga Advantage Program.
Because of unanticipated issues surrounding the previously announced Oswego Players’ production, director Inez Parker has chosen a different play for presentation this fall. Auditions for the upcoming production of “Fiddlers Three” will be held on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 5 and 6, at 7 p.m. in the Frances Marion Brown Theater of the Oswego Civic Arts Center at Fort Ontario.
