Meyers graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in English Education. During the 88th commencement exercises, 531 students received undergraduate degrees and 50 students received associate degrees.
The Oswego YMCA’s Boot Camp Fitness classes will start June 2. Morning classes meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 a.m. or 9 a.m. at the Brietbeck Park pavilion. Open to the public, advance registration and a program fee are required. This outdoor fitness program provides a high-intensity, full-body workout that targets all the major muscle groups.
Herkimer County Community College announces candidates for the College’s 47th annual commencement to be held Friday, May 15 at 5 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Physical Education Building. There are 584 candidates for the associate degree and 52 candidates for certificates.
Area residents unable to view SUNY Oswego’s three May 16 commencement ceremonies live, or who would like to view them again, may catch rebroadcasts throughout the following week on Time Warner Cable.
The Fulton Veterans Council will host a Memorial Day ceremony beginning at 9 a.m. on May 25, in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The ceremony will continue to Mount Adnah Cemetery, the Fulton Veterans’ Park, and the Fulton War Memorial.
The formal ceremony, complete with a procession of faculty and college officers in full academic regalia, is sponsored each spring at Oswego by Vega, the women’s honor society. The audience included faculty, staff, students and students’ family members.
The 20th annual United Way Golf Classic is welcoming major sponsorship from strong community supporters again this year, including Burritt Motors. Participating golfers will have the chance to drive away a new car courtesy of Burritt Motors’ Hole-in-One contest.
Roulette wheels turned, dice hit the table, while exclamations of “Black Jack” and laughter could be heard as students from the SUNY Oswego Adopt-A-Grandparent Program hosted a “Casino Night” for residents at St. Luke Health Services.
Josephine (Jay) Caiella, a speech language pathologist for the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, was recently honored by the Central New York Speech, Language, and Hearing Association as the 2015 Distinguished Service Award Winner.
