The Oswego City School District Board of Education will meet on August 12 at the Education Center second floor curriculum room to conduct the monthly committee meetings and a regular meeting. Board members will gather at 5 p.m. to commence the committee meetings.
The Oswego County E-911 Department hosted a training session this week for communications technicians. The All Hazards Communications Technicians training course took place at SUNY Oswego’s Phoenix Center with a media day on July 17 from 10 a.m. to noon.
AmeriCorps will be holding its annual tennis carnival on August 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Riley Elementary tennis courts. Although the United States Tennis Association’s Oswego tennis program started in 2006, this year will be the seventh year for the tennis carnival, which began in 2007, explained Shane Evans, the new supervisor of the USTA tennis program at the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.

Anita Vibbert, coordinator of Sit and Knit with ‘Nita, announced Silvan Johnson will join the yarn fun on Wednesdays at Arts in the Heart Gallery located at 47 S. First St. The informal event has taken off quickly with enthusiastic knitters dropping by. Johnson will share her crochet expertise August 6 at 4:30 p.m. sharing beginner techniques of chain stitches and making rows of crochet.
On August 9, Oswego Industries, Inc. will be hosting its ninth annual golf open. The charity event will be held at Griffin’s Green Golf Course, in Oswego. Also included in the tournament is the organization’s signature “Disability Hole,” at which each player tees off with a simulated disability. Each year the disability is different and is a closely guarded secret.
