The “Magic of Reading” kicked off the annual Frederick Leighton Elementary School Read-a-Thon recently. The annual event will be conducted from Oct. 1-10 as students are asked to read at least 240 minutes during that time for an average of 24 minutes a day.
On September 28, the students within the Fulton City School District in grades UPK – 12 will have an early dismissal. Grades 7 – 12 will dismiss at 10:30 a.m. and morning Pre K – 6 will dismiss at 11:15 a.m. There will be no afternoon Pre-K classes.

The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau anticipates having limited funding available for youth development programs in 2013. Not-for-profit organizations have until Nov. 9 to apply for grant funds through the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

A book project whose seeds sprouted almost two years ago is reaching fruition and should be in area bookstores in late September, with our first reading, book signing from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at river’s end book store, 19 W. Bridge St., with our celebration party following at 7:30 p.m.
The public portion of the meeting will reconvene at 6 p.m. as the board will move through an agenda of resolutions relating to instruction, personnel and financial areas.
